Piercing- Process and Risks associated with Piercing

nose piercing

What is Piercing?

Piercing can be referred as a small hole done in any part of the body, to insert a ring, jewelry or something. Ear piercing and nose piercing are by far considered as the most common piercing done by anyone. If we go in the past, history says that piercing has been into practice from about 5000 years ago. If we go on culture, nipple piercing and genital piercing will be some of the standard practices in Ancient Rome.

How are Piercing done?

Well, the process of piercing is not so hard and not so easy. It is done with the help of a sharp object to make a hole in the area. After this, a ring or jewelry is inserted into it.

Things to do before getting Piercing

1. Decide the area where you want piercing: As said above, nose and ears are the most common area to get a piercing. However, one can also get a tongue piercing, belly button piercing, tragus or conch piercing. Remember, the cost of piercing entirely depends upon the area you are getting pierced.

2. Don’t go alone: Ask a friend to come with you, if you are getting pierced for the first time. You may feel nervous or scared getting pierced alone. A friend company will make you feel comfortable.

3. Get experienced Piercer done the job: An experienced Piercer will get the job done well. Don’t hesitate to ask about the experience your Piercer haves. Check reviews online if possible before choosing a Piercer. Also, do Google “piercing shops near me” or “piercing places near me” and you will find a list of Piercers near you.

4. Choose nonallergic ring or jewelry: Get Piercing done with rings made of stainless steel, titanium, or platinum. Always avoid jewelry made from nickel and cobalt as they cause allergic reactions.

  •   Blood loss
  •   Allergic reactions
  •   Migration and rejection of ring

Why is Piercing Gun not recommended?

There are many reasons as to why one should not get piercing done with a Piercing Gun. No doubt, Piercing Gun works faster and is much cheaper when compared with other methods.
But one most important thing that says a big “NO” to its use is that Piercing Gun cannot be sterilized. Yes, that’s correct, they are made out of plastic, and so sterilization is not possible. Yeah, we know there is some antiseptic wash possible, but that wash still can’t guarantee you about not spreading any disease. So it’s better to be on the safer side and get piercing done with the help of piercing needles.

Most Pierced Person

Elaine Davidson from Brazil holds the world record of getting the most number of Piercing on her body. She is also officially titled as the "Most Pierced Woman," in the world and also she holds the Guinness World Record of most permanent piercing. She has a whopping total of about 4,225 piercing done on her body.
Another record in the field of piercing is by Brent Moffat from Canada, who holds the world record of getting most pierced in a single session. He got 700 piercings within one hour and made this amazing record.
However, later this record was broken by Kam Ma, who got 1,015 piercings in just 7 hours and 55 minutes.

Are there any risks associated with body piercing?

1. Infection: Getting infection from Piercing is the first and probably say the most common disease related to Piercing. Often infection leads to damaging off tissues and fever. The only way to be protected is by hiring a professional Piercer and the use of sterilized needles.
2. Swelling and bleeding is rare but does happen near the area of piercing as per the reports.

Other related risk includes:

·                 Scarring
·                 Blood loss
·                 Allergic reactions
·                 Migration and rejection of ring
